Mike MacDonald enters up his fifth season as an Assistant Coach for the Curry Hockey Program in 2020-21. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he helped guide a young Leopards team to the ECAC Northeast semifinals. At Wentworth, MacDonald was responsible for defense, special teams, and video.

MacDonald graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a degree in Business Administration in 2007. During his four seasons at Geneseo, the team posted a record of 67-33-11, winning the SUNYAC Championship and participating in the NCAA tournament in each of 2005 and 2006.  He was named NCAA Division III Player of the Week in 2004, SUNYAC All-Tournament in 2005, and Second Team All-Conference in 2006. Over his collegiate career, MacDonald appeared in 109 games, scoring 61 goals and 59 assists for 120 points.
After graduation, MacDonald played six seasons professionally. He began his professional career in the Central Hockey League, spending one season with each of the Odessa Jackalopes and New Mexico Scorpions. The following four seasons he played primarily for the Southern Professional Hockey League’s Huntsville Havoc and later closed out his career with the SPHL's Mississippi Riverkings. At Huntsville, MacDonald served as Captain for three years and Assistant Captain for one year. In 2010, he scored the game-winning goal to give Huntsville its first ever SPHL Championship. MacDonald ranks 4th in Huntsville Havoc history for games played, 5th in goals, 6th in assists and 4th in points. Over his career, MacDonald appeared in 338 professional games with 213 points on 84 goals and 129 assists.
MacDonald is a native of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He completed his secondary education at The Kent School in Connecticut, where he was named Top Male Athlete his senior year. He currently resides in Brookline with his wife Diana, their pets Rocky and Reggie.
