Mendel led the Curry Men's Soccer team for his 13th season in 2019.

The Colonels finished with an overall record of 6-11-1 overall and 0-8 in the CCC in 2018. Curry took home some hardware when they won the LINAO Mountaineer Invitational hosted by Southern Vermont College. Junior Claudio Orisini (Watertown, Conn.) was named as a Second Team All-Conference selection under Mendel's direction while seven garnered Academic All-Conference recognition. 

His 2017 team finished with an 8-11-1 overall record, including a 2-7 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). Mendel obtained his 100th career head coaching on October 6 in a 1-0 shutout of conference opponent Eastern Nazarene. 

The 2016 squad posted a 6-13-1 overall record and qualified for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament quarterfinals.

In 2015, his squad qualified for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament quarterfinals. The team finished with a 10-9-1 overall record.

In 2014, he led his team to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals.  Following that tournament his squad earned a bid to the ECAC Division III Tournament as the #6 seed.  The Colonels defeated the #3 seed Bridgewater State to advance them into the Semifinals where they fell to the #1 seed Endicott College.  Curry finished the season with an 11-10-1 overall record. 

In 2012 and 2013 the Colonels' squads qualified for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament quarterfinals.

The 2008 season was a very successful season for Mendel and his squad. The Colonels finished the regular season with a 16-5-3 overall record. The 16 wins were the most in school history. Curry's conference record was 9-2-2. For the first time since the 1995 season, the team advanced to the semi-final round of the CCC Tournament. Curry was defeated by Nichols College, 2-1. Also for the first time in school history, Curry was selected to play in the ECAC Division III New England Tournament. The Colonels lost to Coast Guard in the semi-final round, 2-0. At year's end, Mendel was chosen by his peers as CCC "Coach of the Year."

A native of Adams, Massachusetts, Mendel is a graduate of Endicott College where he earned his degree in Sport Management. He was a four-year letterman with the soccer program. He was an All-State player in high school and was inducted into the Berkshire County Soccer Hall of Fame for his stellar career at Hoosac Valley High School.

Mendel started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Salem State College, where he helped turn around a program that had four wins in 2004 to a 14-win season in 2006. While at Salem, Mendel was in charge of recruitment and retention for the men’s soccer program.

Mendel holds his NSCAA Premier Diploma as well as his Director of Coaching Diploma. He also has his Master's Degree in Higher Education in Student Affairs from Salem State College. Mendel’s responsibilities include game and contest management and is the Coordinator of Curry’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and an Adjunct Professor in the Management Department at Curry focusing on Sport Management.

During the summers Mendel works as site coordinator for the NSCAA Coaching courses and works numerous camps and clinics in New England. Mendel was also voted “College Coach of the Year” in 2013 by the Eastern Mass Soccer Coaches Association for his work in growing the game in Eastern Massachusetts.
