Canton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team took one step closer to winning the CNE regular season championship, defeating Endicott 4-2 on Friday. It is the Colonels 12th straight win, and they improve to 20-3-0 on the season, and 14-2-0 in CNE play.
After a scoreless first period that saw the Colonels get outshot 14-6, the Colonels Got on the scoreboard in the second when Manny Cabral scored his 7th goal of the season. Just six minutes later Makem Demers scored his second goal of the season off of assists from Casper Soderling and Ben Biester. The scoring really opened up in the third, with Cabral adding his second goal of the game, followed by Nolan McDonough's seventh of the season to make it 4-0 Colonels. The Gulls would add two late goals, but it was too little, too late, as the Colonels won 4-2.
While they were outshot 35-22, the Colonels commanded the faceoff circle, winning 40 of 69 draws.
Goalie Shane Soderwall made 33 saves in the win. He saw his shutout streak of 244 minutes and three seconds end, setting a new program record. The streak stretched across five games, and was the equivalent to just over four straight games without allowing a goal. Prior to Endicott's first goal, Soderwall had not allowed a goal since the second period of the Colonels game against Suffolk on January 31st.
The game also marked George Vonakis' 100th career game, he became only the 14th player to do that since the 1995-1996 season.
Up Next - The Colonels will travel to UNE for a de facto CNE regular season championship game. Just like the Colonels, the Nor'easters are streaking, having won their last 10 games. Saturday's game will start at 7pm.
