Colonels Shut Down Seahawks

CANTON, Mass. - Curry College Men's Ice Hockey defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Salve Regina by a final score of 7-1 Saturday afternoon at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, Curry moves forward with an overall record of 6-2-0 and 5-2-0 in the CCC.

The Colonels struck first in the CCC matchup at the Canton Ice House Saturday afternoon. Curry senior forward Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) netted a shot following a successful draw in the attacking zone to put the Colonels up 1-0 with just over five minutes remaining in the first period. Curry's Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) was credited with the assist on the opening goal following a successful draw in Salve's defensive zone.

Just over two minutes later, Curry senior defenseman Nick Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario) pushed the Colonels to a 2-0 lead on a power-play goal, finding an opening past Salve's Kohl Reddy. Curry's Zhukov and Kent were credited with the assists on Curry's second goal of the afternoon.

With 1:36 remaining in the first period, graduate forward Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) found the back of the net on a deflection stemming from a shot by freshman defenseman Nicholas Lariviere (Blainville, Quebec). Lariviere and Kent were credited with assists on the goal to grant the Colonels a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Salve Regina marked their first goal of the afternoon midway through the second period on a deflection off the skate of Seth Benson and through the legs of Curry's Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Sask.).

With 1:38 left in the second period, Curry's Timmy Kent brought the Colonels' lead to 4-1 on a quick shot from the point, deflecting off the left post and in. Kent's goal was assisted by Tarek Paranica and Billy Roche (Braintree, Mass.). 

Curry's Timmy Kent notched his second goal just before the midpoint in the third period, extending the Colonel lead to 5-1. Under two minutes later, freshman defenseman Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.) found the back of the net, assisted by Kevin Pitts (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) and Tarek Paranica.

The final Colonels goal of the evening came with under five minutes remaining in regulation. Freshman forward Killian Rowley (Fulton, N.Y.) netted the final goal of the contest, closing out the Commonwealth Coast Conference by a final score of 7-1 in favor of the hosting Colonels.

Curry's graduate netminder Reid Cooper turned aside 24 of the 25 shots he faced in the Commonwealth Coast Conference win at home.

Next up for the Colonels, they continue CCC action Friday evening as they host Nichols College at the Canton Ice House for their eighth annual Teddy Bear Toss. Friday's CCC matchup is slated for 7 PM.
