Hockey Shuts Out Western New England For Fourth Straight Victory

MILTON, Mass. – Three different players had a goal and junior Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) made 21 saves to record the shutout as the Curry College men's ice hockey team won its fourth straight contest with a 3-0 win over Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Max Ulin Rink.

With the win, the Colonels stand at 14-6-3 overall and 9-4-2 in league play while the Golden Bears slip to 7-16-0 (2-13-0).

Curry was the first to strike in the game as they got on the board just 3:37 into the contest. Reigning CCC Player of the Week senior captain Zach White (Milford, Conn.) found the back of the net with the assists going to sophomore Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) and freshman Nick Magill-Diaz (Clawson, Mich.). Western New England held a slim 9-8 edge in shots for the period but were unable to net the equalizer.

Curry extended its lead to two 15:25 into the second period on a marker from junior Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.). The goal extended his point streak to 11 straight games. The marker was set up by sophomores Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) and Matthew Henderson (Scarborough, Maine). The Colonels then tacked on another just 2:06 later on a power play goal from Henderson with freshman Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) registering the helper. Ketola made key saves in the final minutes to preserve the shutout and victory.

The final period saw no scoring as Western New England grabbed a 9-8 shot advantage.

Henderson finished the game with a goal and an assist. Six other Colonels closed out the contest with at least one point.

Junior Kyle Carducci (Hartford, Conn.) made 32 saves in net for WNE. Curry outshot the Golden Bears by a 35-21 margin.

The two teams will square off again on Saturday, this time at the Olympia Ice Center in Springfield. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
