EVERETT, Mass. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team defeated the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 3-1 final on Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at Allied Veterans Memorial Rink. With the win, the Colonels improve to 12-6-3 overall and 7-4-2 in the CCC.  The loss drops the Leopards to 7-10-4 overall and to 5-7-1 in league play.

Despite being outshot 13-5 in the first, Wentworth got on the board with 2:31 left in the frame. Junior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The assists on the marker were awarded to junior Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) and freshman Jack McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.). The Leopards freshman goaltender Thomas Draper (Binghamton, N.Y.) was solid between the pipes turning away all 13 shots he faced.

The second period saw the teams even in the shot category with 15 apiece. Curry tallied the game-tying goal at 14:47. The Colonels capitalized on a power-play opportunity when freshman Nick Magill-Diaz (Clawson, Mich.) tallied his first goal of the season. Sophomore Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) registered the helper on the goal.

The Colonels broke the 1-1 draw at the 13:54 mark of the third period as sophomore Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) netted his sixth goal of the season. The assists on the goal went to juniors Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.) and Anthony Trujillo (Toronto, Ontario). Curry then added an empty netter off the stick of senior captain Zach White (Milford, Conn.) for his team-leading 14 goal of the season, including his fifth empty netter.

The Colonels went 1-for-5 on power plays while Wentworth was 0-for-3. Curry had 40 shots while the Leopards had 31.

Ketola made 30 saves in net for the Colonels in the win. Draper had 37 stops in net for Wentworth in the loss.

The teams will conclude the home-and-home series on Saturday, February 2 at Max Ulin Rink at 4:50 p.m. Prior to the contest, Curry will honor its three seniors: Mack Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland), and White in a special pregame ceremony.
