Women's Cross Country Places 8th at the University of New England Invitational

BIDDIFORD, Maine – The Curry College women's cross country team placed 8th overall out of 14 teams on Saturday morning in the University of New England Invitational at Westfield Stanley Park.

UNE placed first with an overall score of 19 points. Curry placed 8th overall with a team score of 229 points.

Curry was led by Freshman ElizaMarie Quinn-Alger (Harwinton, Conn.) who placed 43rd with a time of 21:41.  Quinn-Alger was followed by junior Leigha Sweeney (Braintree, Mass.) who placed 51st with a time of 22:31.  Following Sweeney were senior Jessica Leary (Pembroke, Mass.), 22:57 (57th), sophomore Lydia Hixson (West Hartford, Conn.), 23:44 (74th), freshman Hannah Wells (Whitman, Mass.), 24:54 (92nd), freshman Victoria Gately (Hanson, Mas.), 24:56 (96th) and senior Victoria Norton (Fairfield, Conn.), 26:34 (111th).  Three Colonels made significant improvements on their times from last year's race.  Sweeney was 18 seconds faster, Leary 58 and Hixson was impressive today coming in 1:04 faster from the previous Invitational. 

The Colonels next meet is on Saturday, September 27, at the Pop Crowell Invitational on the campus of Gordon College at 10:45 am.
