2009 Cross Country Preview

2009 Cross Country Preview
Women’s Cross Country Coach Brian Moody is entering his fourth season at Curry College. Moody, a two-time All-American from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, is looking forward to the 2009 season. An avid runner of 25-plus years, Moody can still be found running local road races. Unanimously elected Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Chair last fall by his peers in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC), Coach Moody is honored to serve the conference and represent Curry College in women’s cross country.

During Coach Moody’s tenure the Colonels won their very first All-Academic team award in 2007. The team’s cumulative GPA of 3.46 tied them with Williams College for 5th in the New England Region. The team was led by senior captain Stacy Lavin’s 3.71 career GPA. Lavin, a Nursing major, graduated with the ultimate honor of being voted Curry’s top Scholar-Athlete in the spring of 2008.

In 2009 the Colonels will be led by co-captains Kendra Lapierre (Hollis, NH) and Kimberly DeCosta (Hudson NH). Both returning veterans have competed in women’s cross country the past two season while managing a demanding academic study in Nursing. DeCosta was honored last fall by the TCCC for her academic efforts.

The 2009 cross country team will compete in six meets before entering the very competitive NCAA New England Regional Championship, where top teams and individuals advance to the National Championship Meet. Coach Moody’s team is open to all Curry students and participation is encouraged. “The more the merrier,” he says.
