
Milton, MA - The Curry Women's Volleyball team fell in both matches of their tri-match on Saturday, as they fell to both Dean and Merchant Marine in straight sets. The Colonels are now 0-9 on the season while Dean is 2-5 and Merchant Marine is 5-2.
Match One vs Dean
In the first match of the day, the Colonels fell to the Bulldogs from Dean 25-15, 25-22, 25-20. Curry took a first set lead of 10-7 with a 5-0 run, but a 10-1 run by Dean would give them control. They would win the set, and then go on a 7-1 run to start the second set. But a 5-0 run by Curry got them back in the set. They would even take a 14-11 lead with another 5-0 run. But Dean would once again go on a late run, and win the set by taking five of the last six points of the set. The third set saw the Bulldogs take the lead early, and they would not give it up.
Kyah Earls and Meghan Abbott each had four kills, with Abbott doing it on six attempts, good for a .677 hitting percentage. Emma St. Cyr was the quarterback of the offense, dishing out 10 set assists. She also led the team with seven digs.
Match Two vs Merchant Marine
The Mariners took the last match of the day 25-12, 25-8, 25-16. The Mariners took control of the first set with an early 7-0 run. They then grabbed the second set after starting on a 10-2 run. The final set proved to be the closest, but a 12-2 Mariners run gave them control, and despite a late three point run by the Colonels, they would take the set and the match.
Kyah Earls once again led the team with four kills. St. Cyr had 11 set assists. Earls also led the team with nine digs, just one more than Sonja Matheson, who had eight.
Up Next - The Colonels will have some time off before they hit the court again, next playing when they host Bridgewater State on Monday, September 23rd at 6pm.
