NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Curry College women's volleyball team swept Alberus Magnus and lost to St. Joseph's (L.I.) in Saturday's tri-match at the Messer Athletic Center.
Match One: Curry 3, Albertus Magnus 0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-23)
After Albertus Magnus took a 16-14 lead in set one, the Colonels went on a 10-point scoring run that was jumpstarted with a kill from Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.) to take a 24-16 lead. A Falcons service error ended set one in favor of Curry.
The Colonels jumped out to an 8-4 lead to start off set two, later going on an eight-point run, including two service aces by Avia Fraine (Mattapoisett, Mass.), to take a 17-8 lead over Albertus Magnus.
Set three was the closest of the bunch, but Curry ultimately completed the sweep with a clutch kill from Morgan Kramer (Brightwaters, N.Y.) securing the match victory.
Kramer led all players with 10 kills on a .600 kill percentage, while Abby Sousa recorded 10 assists and six digs.
Match two: St. Joseph's 3, Curry 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-15)
St. Joseph's (L.I.) defeated Curry in three sets, with set two being the closest of the three thanks to late kills by Leah Oscar-Phoenix ( Westwood, Mass.) and Kramer, but they were ultimately defeated in the set by two points.
Guzman led Curry with five kills in the match, while Fraine added 10 digs. Emma St. Cyr led the Colonels with 12 assists, while Sousa was close behind, finishing with 11.
Curry College (3-2) returns to action on Tuesday (9/12) hosting Mass. Maritime at 6 p.m.
