Colonels Downed by Dean

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Volleyball team fell to non-conference opponent Dean College 3-0 Thursday evening in Katz Gymnasium.

The Colonels were defeated by the Bulldogs of Dean 3-0 (13-25, 21-25, 14-25).

With the loss, Curry moves forward with a record of 4-19, 0-6 (CCC).

The first set of the conference contest saw a dominant Bulldogs side, holding the Colonels to just 13 points in the first set. The visiting Bulldogs trailed the Colonels until the set was tied at 7-7. An 18-6 scoring run by Dean sealed the first-set victory over Curry.

In the second set of the evening, Curry took a 10-4 lead early following attack errors by the visitors along with a pair of service aces by Curry's Avia Fraine (Mattapoisett, Mass.). Dean would fight back, tying the set at 16-16. Kills from Lexie Jenkins (Burns, Wyo.) and Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.) pushed the Colonels to a 20-18 lead. A series of errors by the hosting Colonels resulted in a 25-21 set victory for the Bulldogs.

The visitors kept their momentum into the final set of the evening, starting off on a 6-1 scoring run. Kills from Curry's Brooke Reissfelder (Biddeford, Maine), Sonja Matheson (Voluntown, Conn.), and Jess Sullivan (Meredith, N.H.) brought the Colonels within striking distance of the visitors; now trailing 12-10. A 13-4 scoring run by Dean sealed the non-conference victory for the Bulldogs in Katz Gymnasium.

The Colonels were led by Lauren Guzman (8 kills), Avia Fraine (3 service aces, 8 digs), and Brooke Reissfelder (11 assists, 7 digs).

The Colonels will be back on the hardwood Friday as they host CCC opponent Suffolk University at 6:00 PM.
