Women’s Volleyball Stopped by Falcons

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Volleyball team was defeated by non-conference opponent Fisher College Thursday evening at home.

The Colonels fell to the Falcons of Fisher College (13-25, 10-25, 19-25).

With the loss, Curry moves forward with a record of 3-14, 0-3 (CCC).

The opening set of the non-conference matchup saw a dominant Fisher College. The visitors would down the Colonels 25-13 in the first set. The Falcons tallied 12 kills through the first set compared to Curry's four. The Colonels' defense fought back, Brooke Reissfelder (Biddeford, Maine) and Leah Oscar-Phoenix (Westwood, Mass.) each marking a solo block in the set.

A 12-4 opening score in the second set by the visitors prompted a timeout by the Colonels. Following instruction from head coach Sarah Hollis, Curry's Sonja Matheson (Voluntown, Conn.) laid down a pair of booming kills hastily past the outstretched arms of Fisher's Macy Barnes and Caroline Saucier attempting the block. The visiting Falcons would hold the Colonels back from closing in on the lead gained early in the set and close out the second set by a score of 25-10.

The third set saw a battle between the two sides, Curry staying within three points of the visitors. The Colonels would bring the score within five points in the latter stages of the set (24-19), however, the Falcons would hold off any further Curry attacks and close out the third set and the match on a 25-19 set score.

The Colonels were led by Lauren Guzman (7 kills, 10 digs) and Brooke Reissfelder (14 assists, 7 digs).

The Colonels will be back on the hardwood Saturday as they host non-conference opponent Fitchburg State University at 11 AM.
