Women's Volleyball Swept by Roger Williams

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference loss to Roger Williams University Tuesday evening at the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-14, 25-18, 25-16.

With the loss, Curry drops to 8-8 overall on the season and 1-4 in CCC play. Roger Williams improves to 4-7 overall and 3-0 in the CCC.

The first set was all Hawks as the visitors took an early 1-0 edge with a set score of 25-14. Curry managed just two kills in the entire set as the hosts struggled to an attack percentage of -.129. Pacing Roger Williams in the set was senior Katherine Pickard with four kills and five digs.

Curry was more competitive in set two, but the Hawks still controlled the set to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Junior Kristen Dansereau came off the bench to contribute five kills without an error in the set, while senior libero Jaime Gaffga chipped in 10 digs in the second set alone. The Colonel offense came back to life, led by four kills from senior Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan).

The Colonels couldn't defend the Hawks' balanced attack in the third set as the visitors sealed the sweep. For Roger Williams, Dansereau, Pickard, and Kate Porter all finished the set with three kills, while Wood, Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.), and Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) also notched three kills.

Pickard was the match's leading attacker, recording 10 kills while also contributing nine digs. Dansereau finished with nine kills of her own, while Gaffga led all players with 17 digs.

For Curry, Wood finished as the leader offensively with eight kills, with Pereira notching six kills and 16 digs.

Curry will be back in action on Thursday evening for a non-conference doubleheader at Fisher College. First serves are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
