MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's volleyball team fought to defeat the Nichols College Bison by a final score of 3-1 in their first conference matchup of the season Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-12, 25-17, 20-25, 25-14.
With the win, Curry improves to 7-3 on the season and 1-0 in the conference while Nichols falls to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.
Curry senior outside hitter Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) led the Colonels with 14 kills while junior Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.) recorded 17 digs through the conference match up.
Freshman middle hitter Ryley Plourde (Bristol, Conn.) led Nichols in kills with nine on 23 total attacks. Sophomore libero Liz Diorio (Wolcott, Conn.) defended against Curry's attacks with 12 digs recorded.
In the third, Nichols was able to gain an early lead and hold off Curry's attacking side through the progression of the set taking it 25-20. However, the match was decided in the fourth set. With the score tied 14-14, senior middle blocker Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan) was able to lead the Colonels to victory through 11 straight services.
Curry will return to the court on Thursday night with a home match against Wentworth. First serve at Katz Gymnasium is slated for 6 p.m.
