Women's Volleyball Defeats Anna Maria for Third Time in Two Weeks

PAXTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's volleyball team slid past Anna Maria College by a final score of 3-0 Tuesday evening in non-conference action at the Fuller Center. Set scores were 25-21, 25-19, 27-25.

With the win, Curry improves to 6-1 on the season, while Anna Maria drops to 1-6. It is the third time already this season that the Colonels have defeated Anna Maria.

Curry senior outside hitter Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) paced the Colonels with 11 kills and 10 digs. Senior middle blocker Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan) finished with ten kills and two service aces.

Anna Maria junior outside hitter Bella Kozciak (Westfield, Mass.) led the AMCATS with six kills, nine digs, and three service aces. Sophomore setter Julia Tarantino (Pembroke, Mass.) setup the offense, with 13 set assists and six digs.

The match was decided in the third set. Down 18-9 at one point, the AMCATS stormed back, winning eight of the next nine points behind the serving of junior libero Serena Dennis (Holyoke, MA). Later, facing match point, Anna Maria would rally once again, taking the lead off the serving of senior outside hitter Jenna Grande (Whitman, Mass.). Leading 25-24 and with a chance to claim the set however, Curry would answer with three straight points to close it out, finishing it out with a kill by Pereira.

Curry will return to the court on Wednesday night with a home match against Lasell. First serve from Katz Gymnasium is slated for 6 p.m.
