Women's Volleyball Sweeps Fitchburg State to Stay Perfect
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Curry College women's volleyball team won a 3-0 decision against Fitchburg State University Tuesday evening in non-conference action from the Parkinson Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-15, 25-12, 25-22.

With the win, Curry stays perfect at 4-0 on the season, while the Falcons drop to 1-2. 

Fitchburg State grabbed a 3-0 advantage to open the first set, capped by a service ace from sophomore Alissa Olmsted (Ashby, Mass.). Curry went on a 10-1 as seniors Lexi Pereia (Attleboro, Mass.) and Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan) registered a pair of kills each to make the score 18-8.

The Falcons cut the lead to 18-11 with graduate student Perry Joubert (Seekonk, Mass.) leading the charge with three helpers, but the Colonels secured the first set as off an attack error for the 25-15 final. 

Curry took a 5-2 margin in set two on a Pereira kill before Fitchburg State knotted the set at 5-5 following an Amy Coelho (Bellingham, Mass.) kill. The Colonels proceeded to go on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.) point, en route to the 25-12 second set victory. 

The visitors would take a 9-6 edge in the third set with kills from sophomore Haley Ferrara (Sandown, N.H.) and newcomer Jessica Sullivan (Meredith, N.H.) but the Green and Gold tied the frame at 9-9 with a Lauren Riccardi (Tewksbury, Mass.) kill. With the score 18-11, Fitchburg State went on a 5-2 stretch as Olmsted notched three service aces before Ferrara closed out the contest with kill for the 25-22 final in favor of the Colonels. 
 
Fitchburg State was paced by Riccardi with a team-leading six kills, one assist and 13 digs, while Olmsted added two kills, one assist, seven digs and six service aces. Joubert was also solid for the Green and Gold, adding seven assists and four digs. 

For Curry, senior Rachel Damstra (Houston, Texas) finished with a game-best 20 assists, one kill, six digs, and five service aces, while Pereira chipped in 11 kills, two assists, three service aces, and seven digs. 

Up next, the Falcons return to action on Saturday as they take on Clark University and Vassar College in a tri-match, hosted by Clark University, starting at 12:00 p.m. The Colonels will host Fisher College and Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday for a tri-match, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
