Volleyball Sweeps Past Nichols, 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-14)

MILTON, Mass.- The Curry women's volleyball team recorded a 3-0 straight set victory over visiting Nichols College on Saturday afternoon at the Katz Gymnasium on the campus of Curry College. The Colonels recorded set victories of 25-9, 25-21, and 25-14. With the victory, Curry improves to 10-11 overall and 2-6 in the CCC.  Nichols drops to 4-16 and 0-7 in conference.

The Curry offense was paced by Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) who led the Colonels with 12 kills. Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) and Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) posted six kills apiece to place second in that category.  Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) handed out a match-high 18 assists.

On the defensive side, Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass) recorded a match-high 11 digs, tied with the Bisons' Megan Gardner. J'ena Baker and Sabrina Boermeester each tallied seven kills on the match to lead Nichols.

Curry wasted little time in the first set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. The Colonels eventually stretched their lead to 14-3 and then to 20-6 on a service ace by Keeney. With the score 21-9, the home team rattled off four straight points to take the first set, 25-9.

The second set featured a more tightly contested battle. Curry opened the set winning 14 of the first 25 points. The Colonels began to build their lead to four at 21-17 on a kill by Rice. After a service error by the Bison made it game point for Curry Stafford put down a kill to give the Colonels the 2-0 set advantage.

Curry jumped out to a big lead at the beginning of the third, winning nine of the first 11 points. But Nichols would fight back. They cut into the deficit and only trailed by four points (9-13). The Colonels stretched their lead once again to eight at 20-12 on an attack error by Baker.

Curry closed out the set by winning five of the last six points and took the set, 25-14.

Curry will play in their final regular season home contest when they travel to Salve Regina on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match. Nichols will also play Tuesday as the Bison are set to visit Endicott for a 7 p.m. match.
