Women’s Volleyball Sweeps St. Joseph’s (Conn.), 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-17)
MILTON,Mass.-  The Curry College women's volleyball team took down visiting St. Joseph's University (Conn.) with a clean 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-17) sweep on Tuesday night, in a non-conference contest at the Katz Gymnasium on the campus of Curry College.  

Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) paced the Colonels attack with 14 kills. Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass) and Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) added five kills apiece, while Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) registered 12 digs. Keeney led the way for Curry, dishing out 19 assists.

The Blue Jays' Hannah Lemek  recorded a team-high nine kills for the visitors. Breanna Miller handed out 13 assists and libero Demetria Eiger paced St. Joseph's with 13 digs. 

In the first set with the score tied 7-7, the Colonels went on a 4-0 run to go up 11-7. Later in the set Curry extended their lead to six (21-16). The Colonels would only surrender one more point and captured the first set, 25-17. 

St. Joseph's jumped ahead early in the second, 10-6 and would lead by as many as four. But the Colonels responded when Erika Costa (Seekonk, Mass.) knotted the set at 20 when she recorded one of her four kills on the match. Curry rattled off four straight points to win the second set and take a 2-0 set advantage.

The third set was even early on, with the teams trading each of the first seven points. The Colonels used runs of three and four points to build their lead to seven at 18-11. Curry got the straight set victory when they closed out the third set by a final score of 25-17.

Curry (9-10, 1-5) continues their three-game homestand Thursday when they welcome Wentworth for a 6 p.m. match. St. Joseph's (10-12, 4-4) will also be in action Thursday when they travel to UMass-Dartmouth for a 7 p.m. contest.
