Roger Williams Tops Curry Volleyball in Four Sets

MILTON, Mass.- The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team kept its perfect conference record alive with a 3-1 victory (25-6, 16-25, 25-17, 25-19) over Curry in CCC action Thursday night at the Katz Gymnasium in Milton, Mass. 

The Hawks (14-6, 6-0) started the match on a 10-0 run to gain the early advantage. The set was controlled by Roger Williams as they limited the Colonels to just six points in the opening set.

Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass) led all players with a game-high 10 kills. Maddie Neuberger paced the Hawks with nine kills. Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) had 11 digs for Curry to lead all players while Julia Fields dished out a match-high 31 assists. Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) led all Curry players with 25 assists.

After dropping the opening set, the Colonels raced out to a 6-1 lead in the second. They extended their lead to eight when there was an attack error on Grace Kenningham and then Curry closed out the set when Roger Williams was called for a ball handling error. The Colonels took the second set by a final of 25-16.

With the match knotted at one set apiece, the Hawks were able to capture the third set by a final of 25-17. Roger Williams gained an 11 point advantage in the set and then took the third by an eight-point margin.

The Hawks secured the fourth set and the match with a 25-19. The Colonels held a seven point lead but Roger Williams fought back to capture the fourth set and win the match by a final of 3-1.  

Curry (7-10,0-5) returns to the court Saturday when they travel to play Eastern Nazarene at 11 a.m. Roger Williams will also play Saturday as the Hawks host Eastern Connecticut in a 1 p.m. match.
