Women's Volleyball Posts a Pair of Dominating 3-0 Wins Against Visiting Pine Manor and Mass. Maritime

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College hosted Pine Manor College and Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a women's volleyball tri-match Saturday in Milton. In the opening match, the Colonels swept the Gators, 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-12). In the second match, Pine Manor fell to the Buccaneers, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-14). In the final match, Curry took care of Mass. Maritime, 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-9).

Curry 3, Pine Manor 0

The Colonels were led by sophomore Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) with a match-high 12 kills. Junior Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) was right behind Rice with eight kills, while also adding two service aces.  Freshman Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) totaled seven kills while also recording a game high 19 digs. Sophomore Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) added eight service aces as well as 13 digs for Curry.

Freshman Jenna Hall (Glen Falls, N.Y.) led the Gators with a team-high five kills and contributed 10 digs. Sophomore Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) chipped in with nine assists while also dealing a service ace for Pine Manor.

Mass. Maritime 3, Pine Manor 0

The Buccaneers were led by senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) with a game-high 13 kills while also recording 11 digs and assisting on three scoring plays. Junior Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) dished out a game-high 23 assists, while also recording four kills.  Junior Stephanie O'Connor (Westwood, Mass.) recorded a match-best 15 digs as well as two kills for Mass. Maritime.

Whiteshield led all Gators with four kills, five assists, four service aces and tied with senior Shaniesha Williams (Boston, Mass.) with a team-best eight digs.

Curry 3, Mass. Maritime 0

In the third match, Grambley accumulated seven kills to go along with eight service aces. Junior Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) contributed six kills, nine assists and five service aces. Carroll recorded a game high 18 digs with Stafford right behind her with 14.

Klangos led the Buccaneers with team highs in kills (5) and service aces (4), and chipped in with four digs behind O'Connor and Ethier with nine and six, respectively. Ethier also led the team with nine assists.

Both Pine Manor and Mass Maritime return to action on Tuesday as Mass. Maritime travels to Pine Manor for a second game in four days starting at 7 p.m. The Colonels return to action on Friday as they travel to Roger Williams for a conference match starting at 7 p.m.
