MILTON, Mass. – Salve Regina blanked Curry College, 3-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action Tuesday night in Milton. The Seahawks improved to 20-2 on the season and remain undefeated at 5-0 in CCC action, while the Colonels fell to 8-15 overall and 0-5 in league play.
In the first set, Salve Regina held off Curry, 25-16, and then claimed a 25-7 victory in the second set. The Seahawks went on to take the match-clinching third set, 25-8.
Salve Regina was led by senior Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) with match highs in kills (11) and digs (14). Junior Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) dished out a match-best 24 assists, while classmate Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) added 10 kills and 11 digs.
Freshman Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the Colonels with a team-best five kills, while classmate Lauren Gaffney (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded nine digs. Freshman Makayla Hughes (Franklin, N.H.) contributed with six assists. Junior Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) and freshman Kayla Pedersen (Whitman, Mass.) recorded three blocks apiece.
The Colonels sponsored a "Dig for a Cure" Night, donating $5 for each dig they recorded in the match. As a team, Curry collected 28 digs and will donate $140 to the Side-Out Foundation/Dig Pink.
Curry returns to action on Thursday at 7:00p.m., travelling to St. Joseph's (CT) for a non-conference contest. The Seahawks visit Johnson & Whales on Friday for a non-conference tri-match beginning at 5:00 p.m.
