Women's Tennis Downed By Gordon in CCC Action

WENHAM, Mass. – Gordon College took all but one singles match in an 8-1 victory over Curry College on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's tennis action at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Fighting Scots improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Colonels dropped to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

Gordon coasted through doubles play and held a commanding 3-0 advantage entering the singles portion of competition. Junior Jordyn Maddex (Andover, Kan.) and freshman Annette Kim (Andover, Mass.) won by an 8-2 final at No. 1 doubles against the Curry duo of freshman Alexandra Borkov (Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.). Gordon won the remaining two doubles matches via default.

The Fighting Scots' five singles victories all came in straight sets.  Junior Madison West (Southampton, N.Y.) defeated Wiernusz at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3 while freshman Kristin Kendall (Cumberland, Maine) topped senior Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine) at the No. 3 spot. Freshman Abbigail Fournier (Biddeford, Maine) and junior Anna Mullane (North Chelmsford, Mass.) each captured victories by default. The lone bright spot for the Colonels was Borkov at No. 1, where she won the first set 6-4 and won 7-5 in the second.

Curry will next host the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m. Gordon returns to action at Endicott College on Thursday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m.
