Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Season in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Curry College women's tennis team finished the 2019-20 season with a 9-0 defeat to Illinois Wesleyan on Thursday morning. With the loss, the Colonels close the year at 0-19, while the Titans improve to 2-11 on the season.

The Titans took all three points in doubles play to start the day. At first doubles, Ashley Mohr (Morton, Ill.) and Anna Cooper (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) bested Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) and Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) by a score of 8-4. The Titans took second and third doubles by default.

During singles play, Illinois Wesleyan kept their momentum rolling. At first, Rebecca Rochacz (Tinley Park, Ill.) topped Wiernusz 6-3, 6-1. At second, Alessia Girardin (Chicago, Ill.) beat Daigle 6-2, 6-2. Sydney Rowley (Schaumburg, Ill.) downed Kayla Connors (Brockton, Mass.) at third, 6-2, 6-3. The Titans completed the sweep by taking fourth, fifth, and sixth singles by default.

After the match, the Colonels return home to Milton, Mass. and will look forward to the start of their 2020-21 season in the fall. The Titans next three scheduled matches have been cancelled, which may signal the end of their 2019-20 campaign as well.
