Women's Tennis Edged 6-3 by Johnson State

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team lost to Johnson State 6-3 this afternoon at the Big Nine Courts in Milton, Mass.  The loss drops the Colonels to 1-11 overall.  With the win, the Badgers improve their record to 8-5 on the season.

The Badgers won five of six single matches including a forfeit and one doubles win by a Colonels forfeit.  Curry's Alexis Maclea-Perry (Plymouth, Mass.) earned the lone singles win while the doubles duo of Keeley Hardy (Charleston, S.C.) and Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) and Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Maclea-Perry took two victories.

Johnson State's No. 1 singles player, Katherina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) won her match 6-2, 6-2 against Hardy.  The Badger's No. 2 singles player Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) claimed her tilt verse Prete, 6-1, 6-4. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Alex Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.) was bested by Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.), 7-5, 6-3. Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Johnson State, 6-1, 6-1 by defeating Leblanc. At the No.5 slot Maclea-Perry defeated the Badger's Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.), 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, the No.1 pair Hardy and Prete earned an 8-6 victory over Johnson States Van Woerkom and Monick.  The No. 2 duo of Leblanc and Maclea-Perry bested the Badger's Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.), 8-1. 

The Colonels return to action on Thursday, October 13 at 3:00 when they host the University of Mass.-Boston.
