MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team lost to conference opponent Nichols College, 8-1 at the Big Nine Courts on Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Bison improve to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Colonels fall to 7-5 and 4-3 in the CCC.
The Bison swept all six singles matches and won two of three doubles matches.
At the #1 singles spot, Nichols's senior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) knocked off Curry's senior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.), 6-1, 6-2. At the #2 slot Emily Mongello (Plymouth, Mass.) fell to junior Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.), 6-1, 6-0. At #3 the Bison's freshman Christina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) took care of freshman Molly Louis (Guilford, Conn.), 6-0, 6-1, at #4 senior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) was bested by freshman Emma Carey (Venice, Fla.), 6-1, 6-4. At the #5 position Nichols junior Kelsey Peterson (Fairbanks, Alaska) conquered sophomore Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.), 6-4, 7-5. And in the final singles match, junior Katie Malloy (Norwell, Mass.) captured 6-0, 6-1 victories over freshman Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.)
In doubles, the Bison earned two of three points when Dyakiv and Szepanski teamed up to beat the Colonels Mongello and Chuha, 8-2 at #1. At #2, Benoit and Carey defeated Mulrooney and Love, 9-7. Curley and, 8-4. In the final doubles match and Curry's only score, seniors Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) and Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) overpowered senior Erin Rivers (Bristol, R.I.) and sophomore Michelle Keklik (Stratford, Conn.), 8-5.
The Colonels next match is away at conference opponent Western New England on October 5 in a 12:00 p.m. match. The Bison host conference opponent Salve Regina on October 4 at 4:00 p.m.
