Women's Tennis Drops 5-4 Non-Conference Match to Salem State

MILTON, Mass. – Salem State University took all three doubles matches and a pair of singles contests to edge Curry College, 5-4, in women’s tennis action Thursday afternoon in Milton. The two teams only played one set in each singles match due to wind and the threat of rain. The Vikings improve to 6-0 overall, while the Colonels fell to 6-5.

Wins from Alicia Poore and Michelle McEwen at #1 doubles, Lauren Turenne and Carly Muniz at #2 and Patricia Quartararo and Jessica Spinale at #3 provided the visitors with their winning margin. Poore and McEwen defeated Emily Mongello and Lauren Chuha, 8-3. Turenne and Muniz  took care of Megan Mulrooney and Kate Johnson , 8-3.  Quartararo and Spinale also earned a point for SSU at #3 doubles, knocking off Lauren Maloney and Elizabeth Zarkades, 8-4.

Curry dominated in singles taking four out of six matches, getting wins from Mulrooney at #1, Mongello at #2, Maloney at #3 and Johnson at #6. SSU got victories from Muniz at #4 and Quartararo at #5.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday, hosting Anna Maria at 12:00 p.m. The Vikings visit Western Connecticut State on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
