Colonels Advance to CCC Semifinals With Win Over Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Women's Soccer took down Salve Regina University in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals at home Saturday evening.

With the win, Curry moves forward with an overall record of 10-5-3 and 4-2-3 in the CCC.

The Colonels struck first in the CCC Quarterfinal as senior forward Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) buried a shot in the back of the net past senior goalkeeper Georgia Drake to put the Colonels up 1-0. Borges' goal was assisted by junior Sydney Resendes (Coventry, R.I.).

Just 32 seconds after the opening goal by Curry's Samantha Borges, Salve Regina senior forward Meagan McLaughlin equalized the contest on a rebound shot.

In the 19th minute, Curry regained the lead as junior midfielder Sydney Resendes found the back of the net, capitalizing on a long delivery by junior defender Lexi LaPerle (Ledyard, Conn.). The Colonels would hold back the Seahawks from any further attacks in the half, holding the 2-1 lead into the intermission.

The Colonels opened up scoring in the second half with a header from sophomore midfielder Kiera Lindmark (Norfolk, Mass.) on a corner delivered by senior defender Jessica Gooch (Dracut, Mass.) just six minutes into the second half.

Just seven minutes later, Curry would find the back of the net again. Curry College senior defender Erica Blanch (Danvers, Mass.) floated a shot 35 yards from goal, dropping the ball at the far post and past freshman goalkeeper Reagan Moffatt to put the Colonels up 4-1.

The visiting Seahawks netted their second goal of the contest late in regulation. Salve's Marissa Perachi found the back of the net late in the contest capitalizing on a loose ball at the top of the penalty box, bringing the score to 4-2 in favor of the Colonels. With no additional scores from the visitors, Curry College would take the 4-2 CCC Quarterfinal victory on Katz Field Saturday evening.

Curry's Hannah Correa marked 11 saves in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinal win at home.

The Colonels return to the field Tuesday as they face the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals.
