MILTON, Mass. - For the first time in six years, the Curry College women's soccer team will host a postseason contest at Walter M. Fans are strongly encouraged to wear purple in support of the Colonels.
Last Meeting
Curry's Senior Day last Saturday proved to be a postseason preview, as the Colonels and Seahawks played to a 0-0 draw just six days ago at Katz Field.
How They Got Here
Curry enters with an overall record of 9-5-3 on the season, and finished CCC play with a mark of 4-2-3. The Colonels tied for second in the league standings, but fell to third on a head-to-head tiebreaker with the University of New England. Salve Regina went 7-9-2 overall and 4-3-2 in CCC action. The Seahawks were in a three-way tie for fourth, but fell into sixth in the tiebreaker.
Players to Watch
Curry graduate student Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) and Salve's Hannah Daniewicz each lead their respective teams with seven goals on the season, and are among six players tied for fifth in the CCC in the category. Each has also chipped in four assists for 18 points.
Junior Sydney Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) and sophomore Kiera Lindmark (Norfolk, Mass.) have both had breakout seasons for the Colonels offensively. Resendes has netted five goals and four assists on the season for 14 points, while Lindmark finished the regular season with four goals, of which three were game-winners.
Senior captain Jessica Gooch (Dracut, Mass.) has anchored Curry's back line all season, and is expected to be a major difference maker on Saturday. With Gooch's help, the Colonels are tied for second in the CCC with seven clean sheets on the season, and are in fourth with a team goals against average of 1.00.
In net, Curry will rely upon sophomore Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.), who has played every minute of CCC action for the Colonels this season. The two-time reigning CCC Defensive Player of the Week, Correa leads the league in save percentage in conference games at .873, and ranks second in the conference with seven shutouts overall.
Salve Regina has used a two-goalkeeper system this season, as senior Georgia Drake has started 10 games with a .806 save percentage and 2.57 goals against average, while freshman Reagan Moffatt has started eight games with a .833 save percentage and 1.64 goals against average.
