Women's Soccer Tripped Up in CCC Opener

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team came up on the short end of a 1-0 final against Nichols College in its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.

The Bison (7-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 CCC) produced the match's lone goal in the 38th minute and held off the Colonels the rest of the way. Curry put up 15 shots on goal in the contest, all of which were turned away by sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Marcantonio (North Smithfield, R.I).

With seven minutes go in the first half, sophomore Maegan Roy (Thompson, Conn.) served in a ball of a corner kick and that connected with the head of junior Abby Bassett (Burrillville, R.I.). Bassett was able to get enough on the header to get the ball past Colonels' freshman goalkeeper Oliver Hutchinson (Scituate, Mass.) to give Nichols the 1-0 lead. It was the only shot that Hutchinson failed to stop on the day. He finished with six saves against 15 total shots.

Curry recorded 27 total shots in the match. Junior Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) registered 11 shots (eight on goal) while sophomore Maddie Wilson (Millbury, Mass.) added seven shots, including in four on goal.

Curry (3-5-0 overall, 0-1-0 CCC) travels to Rhode Island College for its next contest on Wednesday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. Nichols remains on the road as they will travel to Rivier University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
