Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Western New England in CCC Action

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Soccer team fell to visiting Western New England, 1-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Walter M. Katz Field on Friday night. The loss drops the Colonels to 8-7-3 on the season and 1-5-2 in the CCC.  With the win the Golden Bears improve to 9-6-2 overall and 7-1 in the CCC.

Western New England held a slight advantage in shots in the first half at 5-4.  The Colonels landed three of their four shots on net but strong play by the Golden Bears sophomore goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) held them scoreless.  The lone goal of the match came at the 17:20 minute mark.  Western New England's sophomore Kaeli Serafino (Ludlow, Mass.) netted the game-winner on an unassisted tally. 

The Colonels controlled the second half as they outshot the Golden Bears, 8-4 and had two corner kick opportunities while Western New England had zero.  Curry's sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.) only faced one shot while Lemekha stopped all three that she faced to earn the shutout victory.

Curry outshot Western New England 12-9 and held the advantage in corners, 4-1.

Buzzotta was credited with the loss in goal for the Colonels with two stops. Lemekha recorded six saves in goal for the Golden Bears in the win.

Curry travels to Wentworth for a 4:00 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference contest on Tuesday, October 24. Western New England travels to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon on Tuesday, October 24 at 3 p.m.
