Women's Soccer Alumni Game Recap

MILTON, Mass. – On Sunday April 23 , several former Colonels returned to Walter M. Katz Field to play a friendly match against members of the current Curry Women's Soccer Team in the fifth annual Alumni Game. It was a highly successful event attended by over 20 alumni in addition to members of the current Curry team.

"Connecting the present with the past is very important to me and my coaching staff", said sixth year coach Jason Tassinari.  "I was so happy that my current players could make an emotional and visual connection with some of the players who paved the way for where they are today."

The current Colonels played UMass Boston to a 1-1 tie the day before on a goal by midfield Captain Cassie Grasso. After the alumni game, the players and their families gathered for pizza, drinks, and desserts that were organized by Robbin Sadlers and Lucy Lima (Abbey Sadlers '17, Kaitlyn Lima '17).

"We continue to have great numbers and a tremendous amount of enthusiasm at the alumni game, which is very exciting", said Coach Tassinari.  "What's satisfying for me is that several of the alumni who attended the game didn't actually play for me (prior to 2012). I think it shows that we are doing a good job of reaching out to all the former players and making them feel like they are still part of the program. We certainly love and appreciate all of them."

The game featured alumni that graduated over 35 years ago.

"We had players from the Class of 2017 playing alongside some players from the class of 1981 and 1983", says Coach Taz. "It may look like a game, but in reality, it is a social engagement for everyone involved. Going forward, we are hoping to move the alumni game to the fall before one of our games to make it an even larger with a pregame ceremony."
