Women's Soccer Shut Out, 1-0, by Visiting Nichols College

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team lost to the visiting Bison of Nichols College, 1-0, on Tuesday evening at the Walter M. Katz Field.  With the loss the Colonels fell to 6-10-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the CCC.  The Bison moved to 6-13 overall and 1-8 in the CCC earning their first win in the conference.

The teams battled each other to a scoreless first half.  Curry held a slight advantage in shots at 10-7.  The Colonels landed seven of their 10 shots on net, while the Bison landed four.  Solid play between the pipes by both netminders kept the game tied at zero.  For Curry, freshman Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) led her team in shots with eight and Nichols sophomore Anjali Rowe (Newington, Conn.) and junior Michelle Gardner (Ayer, Mass.) both distributed four.

The Colonels finished the half with 10 shots, seven on net, three corners and two fouls.  The Bison finished with seven shots, four on net, three corners and one foul.

The game-winning goal was scored just nearly 15 minutes into the second frame.  Junior Alyssa Tosti (Douglas, Mass.) tallied the lone goal of the night on a breakaway to halt a scoreless tie.  Junior Michelle Gardner (Ayer, Mass.) was credited with the assist after she sent Tosti in alone on a breakaway against Curry's senior goaltender Hayley Lorge (Beverly, Mass.). She fired a shot inside the left post at the 59:53 mark.  The Colonels fought hard over the final 30 minutes with both Lima and senior Alayna Coakley (Grafton, Mass.) pressuring the Bison's goaltender, junior Sarah Whitestone (Dalton, Mass.), but Whitestone made 10 stops total in the final stanza earning the shutout.

The Colonels ended with 22 shots, six corners and four fouls.  The Bison ended with 14 shots, three corners and five fouls.

Lorge made seven saves in net taking the loss.  Whitestone made an impressive 17 stops for the win.
