Women's Soccer Edges Framingham State, 2-1

Framingham, Mass. – The Curry College women’s soccer team rallied from a one goal deficit with a pair of markers to defeat the host Framingham State University Rams 2-1 in non-conference action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Colonels even their record at 2-2 on the season, while the Rams slip to 1-2 on the year.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute of action.  Junior Michelle Mendes (Berkley, Mass.) sent a cross to sophomore Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) in the box. Parent made a move and laid a shot low in the far corner for her first of the season.

The lead would not last long as the Colonels tied the score in the 24th minute.  Junior forward Alayna Coakley (Grafton, Mass.) took a pass and moved through the Rams defense beating the keeper with a shot in the upper ninety.

The Rams had a chance to break the tie in the opening minutes of the second half when sophomore Isabela DeSouza (Framingham, Mass.) had a shot in front of the net, but her bid sailed just wide.

Curry would tally the game-winner in 53rd minute off a corner kick.  Sophomore Deanna McMahon (Hanover, Mass.) launched the corner into the box and senior Lindsay Trudeau (Storrs, Conn.) headed the ball into the back of the net.

The Rams outshot the Colonels 20-14 in game and held an 11-8 advantage in the second.
The Rams had several chances to tie the score down the stretch, but Colonel goalie Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.) came up with the big saves.

Hardy finished the game with eight stops, while freshman Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) made a career-best 10 saves in a losing effort.

The Rams return to action on Saturday afternoon when they open league play at Worcester State at 1 p.m., while the Colonels travel to Nichols on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (Game Recap Courtesy of Framingham State University)
