Women's Soccer Tripped Up Against CCC Rival Endicott College, 3-1

MILTON, Mass.- Endicott College defeated Curry College, 3-1, in conference action on Saturday afternoon in Milton. With the win, the Gulls improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Colonels fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the CCC.

Despite Endicott outshooting Curry 22-3 in the first half, the Colonels were able to hold the Gulls to just one goal.  Junior goaltender Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.) made 11 saves alone in the frame.  Endicott was first to get on the board at the 33:36 mark when their top scorer, senior Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) scored off an assist from sophomore Heather Moody (Dunstable, Mass.).  It didn’t take long for Curry to answer back as freshman Mary Blythe (Montepelier, Vt.) scored her first collegiate goal just 6:03 minutes later.  Junior Kelly Howe (Walton, Neb.) was credited with the assist.  Hardy continued to come up with some big saves to finish out the half and take her team into intermission tied at 1-1.

In the first half, Endicott had 22 shots, 12 on goal, six corners and three fouls.  Sophomore Natalie Wyrsch (Dover, N.H.) made two saves in the frame.  For Curry, they had three shots, all on goal, zero corners and six fouls.  Hardy made 11 saves.

The Gulls controlled the entire second half, once again outshooting the Colonels by a big margin. This time, Endicott had 18 shots and Curry 6.  The Gulls had plenty of opportunity early in the frame but Hardy was strong between the pipes and Endicott couldn’t find the back of the net until 17 minutes into the half.  Sophomore Nicole Fournier (Milford, Mass.) received a pass right down the middle of the field from Moody, for her second assist on the day.  Endicott kept the pressure on and although the Curry defense and Hardy did a good job keeping the score close, the Gulls scored one more to put the game away with just five minutes left to play.  Junior Chelsea Garlock (Meriden, Conn.) scored the game-winner off an assist from junior Vanessa Caruccio (Winthrop, Mass.).

Endicott finished the game with 40 shots, 26 on net, eight corner kicks and six fouls.  Curry finished with nine shots, eight on net, one corner and 10 fouls.

Wyrsch earned the win in net with seven saves. Hardy had a career-high 23 saves in the loss.
