Women’s Lacrosse Falls Short Against Wentworth

WENHAM, Mass. - Curry College was defeated 12-11 by the Wentworth Institute of Technology in a closely contested Conference of New England women's lacrosse game Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field.

With the loss, the Colonels' record drops to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Despite outscoring or going even with Wentworth in three of the four quarters, the Colonels were bested by a single goal. Curry won the first quarter 3-2, starting with a connection from Grayson Goolgasian to Natalie Keenan, who scored four minutes into the game to put the Colonels on the board. Brooke Barry scored on a free position shot two and a half minutes later to give Curry its first lead, while an unassisted goal from Goolgasian closed out scoring in the period.

In the second quarter, Nichole Michael, assisted by Ava Doyle, scored to kick off a three-goal run for the Colonels. Grace Grosso was next to score, followed by Goolgasian, assisted by Keenan, whose second goal gave the Colonels a 6-5 advantage. Michael scored again to close out the half with Curry on top 7-6.

Doyle connected with Goolgasian to start the second half to earn her the hat-trick, but a five-goal run by Wentworth gave the Panthers an 11-8 lead with under 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Keenan tried to force the Colonel's comeback herself, scoring three goals in the final eight minutes of play to finish with a team-high four goals. Unfortunately, the Colonels ran out of time before completing the comeback.

Vivi Helquist played the entire game in net for the Colonels, making six saves in the closely contested loss.

Curry College continues conference play with a 4 p.m. matchup against Gordon College on Wednesday, April 9th, beginning at 4 p.m.
