Women’s Lacrosse Battles with UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Curry College was defeated 16-12 by UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference collegiate women's lacrosse game Wednesday evening at Cressy Field.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 1-5 on the season.

Nicole Michael jumpstarted the Colonels' offense with 9:34 on the clock in the first quarter of play, tying the game 1-1 on a free position shot. Grayson Goolgasion was the next Colonel to score, finding the back of the net four minutes later on an unassisted goal to end the period trailing 4-2.

Four different players scored for Curry in the second quarter, starting with another goal by Goolgasian on a free-position shot, followed by unassisted goals from Ava Doyle and Grace Grosso. Natalie Keenan closed out the period, scoring off a pass from Doyle with 1:11 left in the half to send the Colonels to the locker room trailing 9-6.

Doyle continued the comeback push early in the second half, cutting the deficit to 9-7 after scoring off a pass from Sarah Kelly two minutes into the third quarter. Goolgasian earned the hattrick with 53 seconds remaining in the period, scoring on a free position shot to send Curry to the final quarter trailing 11-8.

Fourth-quarter goals from Kelly, Michael, Doyle, and Goolgasian weren't enough to get the Colonels back into the game as three straight goals from UMass Dartmouth to start the fourth put the game out of reach.

Curry College returns to action on Friday, March 21st, in a road game against Mass. Maritime beginning at 7 p.m.
