Women's Lacrosse Drops CCC Tilt to Roger Williams

MILTON, Mass. – Roger Williams University spoiled Curry College women's lacrosse's home opener on Thursday night, handing the Colonels a 21-2 setback at Walter M. Katz Field.

The Hawks scored the first seven goals of the contest and 14 of the first 15. Sophomore Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) netted a game-high six goals and added an assist to pace the RWU offense. Sophomore Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) and senior Lauren Flahive (Foxboro, Mass.) each chipped in four goals while classmate Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine) contributed two markers.

Junior Sabrina Santaniello (Marshfield, Mass.) tallied both goals for the Colonels, who were outshot 34-4.

Roger Williams opened the game with seven scores in the first 11:46 and never looked back. Cavanaugh potted five of her goals in the first to lead the charge.

Curry got on the board with 17:49 remaining in the opening half. Santaniello recorded an unassisted tally to make the score 7-1.  The Hawks registered the final seven goals of the stanza to carry a 14-1 advantage into the break.

Roger Williams continued its strong play, outscoring the Colonels 7-1 in the second half to capture the game in the 21-2 final.

RWU senior Addie Di Scipio (Falls Church, Va.) picked up the win in net, finishing with two saves against four shots on goal. Curry junior goalie Jessica Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) made eight stops in the loss.

Curry (0-2 overall, 0-2 CCC) remains at home to host Gordon College on Saturday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m. Roger Williams (1-0 overall, 1-0 CCC) welcomes in Endicott College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
