5 Hat Tricks Power FDU-Florham Past Women’s Lacrosse

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team fell by a score of 21-2 to FDU-Florham on Tuesday afternoon in Savannah, Georgia. The game was played at Memorial Stadium as a part of the teams' respective Spring Break trips. Following the defeat, the Colonels sit at 1-3, while the Devils improve to 2-3.

In the beautiful Georgia weather, Florham got out to a hot start. Over the game's first eight minutes, the Devils took control by scoring eight unanswered goals, with senior Aliyha Elk (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) accounting for half of the tallies. With 17:10 left to play in the first half, Marissa McCarthy (East Bridgewater, Mass.) got the Colonels on the board with an unassisted tally, but Florham would find the back of the net seven more times before halftime to take a 15-1 advantage into the break. Elk, Madison Wood (Oceanport, N.J.), and Kate Musselman (Allentown, Pa.) all contributed hat tricks for the Devils in the first frame.

Just under nine minutes into the second half, Olivia Chaoush (Westfield, Mass.) cashed in for the third time in the contest, before Elk deposited her sixth of the day. Curry cut into the lead at 17-2, as Sabrina Santaniello (Marshfield, Mass.) found Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.), who tallied her seventh goal of the young season. Each of the next two markers belonged to Florham's Hannah Bhend (Landing, N.J.); her second of the day coming a man-up and her third of the day coming a man-down. As the clock struck zeroes in the match-up, the Devils departed with a 21-2 victory.

Elk topped the stat sheet in goals (6), points (6), shots (7), shots on goal (6), and draw controls (6). On the Colonels' side, Colleen Donnelly (Atkinson, N.H.) picked up the team-lead in draw controls with three, while Maggie Murray (Marstons Mills, Mass.) pitched in a pair of caused turnovers.

The Colonels will resume their schedule by returning home to take on Wellesley on Wednesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. The Devils also head home, as they're next slated to host Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, March 14 at 1:00 p.m.
