Women's Lacrosse Closes Out Non-Conference Play With 18-6 Victory Over Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. – Behind nine different scorers, the Curry College women's lacrosse team posted an 18-6 victory over Emerson College on Monday night at Rotch Field in the team's non-conference finale.

Sophomore Katie Parker (Branford, Conn.) and junior Leona Stevens (Kinston, Mass.) scored a game-high five points each with four goals and one assist. Junior and recently named CCC Defensive Player of the Week Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) added a hat trick and one assist. Sophomore Allie Wysocki (Agawam, Mass.) netted a pair plus one helper. Five others found the back of the net with one goal apiece to round out the scoring. Freshman goalie Jessica Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) made 10 saves in goal to register the win.

Sophomore Kelli Mark (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) paced Emerson with three goals and an assist while junior Jenna Tomsky (Clinton, N.J.) finished with two markers and one helper. Freshman Julia Burns (Rockville Center, N.Y.) closed out the scoring column with the Lions, recording one goal. Freshman goalie Elizabeth Fretz (Falls Church, Va.) stopped 12 shots in net.

Curry took control early, opening up a 10-1 lead in the first 11:50 of the contest. Stevens accounted for three while Dubel, Parker, and Wysocki tallied two apiece. Emerson answered back with back-to-back markers from Tomsky.

The Colonels scored the final four goals of the half to lead 14-3 at intermission. Stevens, sophomore Taylor Gallagher (Rockland, Mass.), Dubel, and sophomore Katie Tarr (Atkinson, N.H.) each provided scores in the final 9:10 of the stanza.

The teams traded each of the six of the seven goals in the second half. Junior Kayla Merritt (Attleboro, Mass.) netted a goal off a free position shot. Mark followed with her first of three goals in the half just 1:32 later to cut the deficit to 11, 15-4. Parker added the next two goals for Curry while Mark answered with two of her own. Sophomore Colleen Donnelly (Atkinson, N.H) registered the contest's final goal with 1:55 left to end the game in an 18-6 final

Curry (8-6 overall) will next play at home against the University of New England on Wednesday, April 10 at 4:00 p.m. Emerson (0-5 overall) remains home to host Mount Holyoke on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
