Women's Lacrosse Downs Wentworth 13-8 in CCC Action

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team defeated Wentworth, 13-8 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Colonels improve to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the CCC. The Leopards drop to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Wentworth got on the board first just 39 seconds into the opening stanza off a goal by senior Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.). An unassisted tally from Curry's senior Lauren Carroll (Providence, R.I.) minutes later evened the score.  The Leopards would regain the lead when freshman Julie Dam (Milford, Mass.) converted on a free position shot.  The Colonels answered back with two of their own to take their first lead of the contest.  Senior Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) sent Carroll a feed for her second on the day.  Freshman Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) fired one into the back of the net off a free position shot.  Wentworth responded with a two-goal run, both scores coming from sophomore Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.).  Curry however finished the half netting three goals in the final three minutes to head into intermission with a 6-4 advantage.  Parker assisted senior Malorie Knowton (Norfolk, Mass.) before tallying two of her game-high five.

The Colonels came out strong to start the second half scoring three goals in a ten minute span, extending their lead to five.  Parker was first to strike off an assist by senior Abby Carnevale (Beverly, Mass.).  Dubel netted an unassisted goal for her second and Carroll ripped one in off a free position for her third overall.  The Leopards freshman Marissa Nelson (Cranston, R.I.) stopped the run but Curry's Knowlton answered back less than two minutes later.  Holland scored her second to pull Wentworth to 10-6 with 13:46 left to play.  Parker notched her fourth followed by another two from Paradis.  The Colonels held the Leopards scoreless for the remaining ten minutes and managed to net two more for the 13-8 victory.  Dubel assisted Carnevale and Parker found the back of the net to close out the game.

Parker led all players with seven points on five goals and two assists. She also won five draw controls.  Parker was followed by Carroll who pitched in a hat trick and Dubel who had two tallies and a helper for three points respectively.  Dubel also had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Along with Knowlton's two goals, the midfielder led all players with eight caused turnovers and seven ground balls.   

Paradis led Wentworth with four points on four goals.  She also won three draw controls and caused a pair of turnovers. Holland had two goals and three draw control wins while sophomore Caitlin McCormick (Hanson, Mass.) had three caused turnovers.

Senior Rachel Smith (Arlington, Mass.) picked up the win in the cage for Curry with three saves.  Wentworth's junior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) made an impressive 19 saves in 60 minutes of action in the loss.

Curry will next play on Wednesday as they host Framingham State at 4:00 p.m. Wentworth returns to action on Tuesday as they host the University of New England at 4:00 p.m.
