Women's Lacrosse Defeats Colby-Sawyer, 13-8, to Advance to TCCC Semi-Finals

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Colby-Sawyer College, 13-8 on Saturday in Milton, Mass. to capture the TCCC Quarterfinal game.  With the win, the Colonels advance to the TCCC Semi-final game where they will face the #2 seed Endicott College.  Curry has not advanced to the semi-final round since the 2009 season.  The Colonels improve to 15-3 overall while the Chargers end their season at 8-10.

The Chargers were the first to get on the board at the 26:24 mark on a goal by senior Hannah Cullen (Penacook, NH).  Cullen was assisted by sophomore Laurel Bauer (Bradford, NH).  Curry's sophomore Ana Bottary (Hull, MA) won the draw after the goal and scored her first of five on the day just nine seconds later.  Senior Jessie Koffman (Andover, MA) won the next draw and assisted on senior Ashley Hansbury's (Chelmsford, MA) first goal of the day just 12 seconds later.  The Chargers tied the game on a goal by senior Samantha Draper (Duxbury, MA) who recieved a pass from teammate sophomore Ashley Reis (Peterborough, NH).  Bottary scored back-to-back goals to extend the Colonles lead to 4-2. Bauer scored next for Colby-Sawyer, but Curry went on to score the next three goals one by Koffman, Hansbury and Bottary.  The Chargers got one more goal to end the half from junior Brittany Murphy (Woburn, MA) to end the period.  The Colonels had the 7-4 advantage heading into half-time. 

Hansbury scored the first goal to start the second half when she beat a Charger defender 1v1.  Colby-Sawyer got two in a row both by Murphy, one assisted by Bauer and the other by sophomore Kate Rial (Chester Springs, PA).  Murphy's second goal cut Curry's lead to just two at 8-6.  Freshman Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, VT) scored her first and only goal of the day when she won the next draw and sprinted down the field for Curry's ninth goal.  Hansbury scored her final goal of the day off a pass from Koffman to take the 10-6 lead, but Murphy scored her last just minutes later.  The Colonels did a great job in the last four minutes defensively with senior Maria Lynch (Billerica, MA) making some big stops in net and holding Colby-Sawyer to just one more goal bu Draper.  Curry got three more in a span of two minutes by Bottary and two from Koffman. 

Hansbury led the Colonels in points with six on four goals and two assists.  Koffman finished with five points on three goals and two assists.  Bottary had a game-high five goals for the Colonels. 

Murphy led her team with four goals.  Bauer also finished the day with four points on two goals and two assists. 

The Colonels outshot the Chargers 38-23 and grabbed 16 draw controls to their 7.

Curry's senior goalie Maria Lynch (Billerica, MA) finished with 15 saves in net for her 15th win of the season.  Sophomore Liz Malenfant (Siasconset, MA) made 16 saves in net for Colby-Sawyer.

The Colonels will travel to Endicott College in the TCCC Semi-final game on Wednesday, May 4 for a 4:00 p.m. game time.
