Women's Lacrosse Handed 14-9 Loss By Western New England

 MILTON, Mass.- Curry College lost to Western New England on Saturday night in Milton, Mass.  With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 11-4 overall and 8-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Colonels fall to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in TCCC play.

WNEC jumped out to a 3-0 lead on two goals by senior Jeanmaria Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) and one by senior Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) before Curry would stop the scoring run.  The Colonels scored back-to-back goals just 41 seconds apart, the first from senior Kelly Champagne (Wolfboro, MA) assisted by senior Jessie Koffman (Andover, MA) and the other on a free position goal by senior Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, MA).  WNEC scored the next three on goals by senior Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, CT), unassisted, junior Katie Toomey (Northborough, MA) assisted by Barbato, and another from Sqaudrito on a free position. Once again Curry would answer back on a goal by freshman Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, MA) assisted by junior Lauren Glavin (Billerica, MA) but the Golden Bears went on to score another four before the half would end to bring their total to 10.  Three of the four were from Daniels and one from Barbato.   The Colonels scored the last two of the half, one by Koffman, unassisted, and the last by Glavin assisted by Hansbury.  WNEC had the 10-6 edge heading into the second half. 

Curry scored the first goal of the second half on a free position by Koffman.  WNEC answered with two of their own 43 seconds apart both from Daniels unassisted.  Both squads were held scoreless over the next 13 minutes until Barbato scored her fourth and final on a free position shot.  Junior Micheala Powers (Falmouth, MA) caused a turnover in the Colonels defensive end and ran it up the field to score her first goal of the night.  Daniels scored the 14th and final goal for her team with five minutes to play and Koffman scored her team’s final goal just 16 seconds later.

Koffman led the Colonels with four points on two goals and two assists. Hansbury and Glavin both finished the night three points on two goals and one assist each. 

Daniels scored a team-high seven goals and Barbato posted four goals and one assist.

Curry's senior goalie Maria Lynch (Billerica, MA) finished with 13 saves in net.  Senior Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) made 12 saves in net for the win.

The Colonels will travel to Anna Maria on Wednesday, April 20 for a 4:00 p.m. game time. Western New England travels to Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday, April 20 for a 4:00 p.m. start.
