Women's Lacrosse Makes It 10 Wins on the Season Defeating Colby-Sawyer, 15-11

MERIDEN, N.H. - April 6, 2011 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team tried to make a second half comeback, but could not overcome a 12-5 halftime deficit as the Colonels of Curry College won the game 15-11 on Wednesday evening at Kimball Union Academy.

Curry jumped out to a 2-0 lead two minutes into the contest on goals from senior Jessie Koffman (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.). Colby-Sawyer senior Samantha Draper (Duxbury, Mass.) got the Chargers on the board two minutes later to cut the deficit in half. Curry quickly responded with a pair of goals before the Chargers scored three straight.

The Colonels took a 5-4 lead on senior Ashley Hansbury's (Chelmsford, Mass.) second goal of the game at 18:02. Colby-Sawyer junior Brittney Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) then tied the game three minutes later with her second goal of the game.

Curry's defense held the Chargers without a tally for the remainder of the half and went on a 7-0 spurt to take a 12-5 halftime lead.

Colby-Sawyer got momentum after the break and cut the deficit to 12-7 after goals by junior Lyndsay French (Ipswich, Mass.) and sophomore Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.). Curry pushed their advantage back to seven on goals from freshman Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Hansbury.

The Chargers responded with three straight goals to come within four, but the teams exchanged a goal down the stretch and the Colonels held on for the 15-11 win.

Curry's Hansbury had a game best five goals and added an assist. Koffman added four goals.

Murphy had a team best three goals for the Chargers. French and Bauer each added two goals and two assists.

The Chargers will host Salve Regina on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00pm. Curry will host Regis at 11:00 am also on Saturday. (Game Recap Courtesy of Colby-Sawyer Sports Information)
