
Canton, MA - The Curry Women's Hockey team picked up their fifth straight win on Saturday, shutting out CNE foe Suffolk 3-0. With the win the Colonels are now 10-12-1 on the season, and 9-8-0 in CNE play. The Rams fall to 8-14-1 and 6-9-1. The five game winning streak matches the program record set last season.
The Colonels opened the scoring in the first period when Bella Mardesich scored an unassisted goal eight minutes into the game. The 1-0 score would hold all the way until midway through the third period when the Colonels would score on the power play. Hannah Berkowitz passed the puck across the ice to Mardesich, who took a shot at the net, the goalie saved it, but Danielle Reid was there to put the rebound home. The Rams would pull their goalie with four minutes remaining in the game, but were unable to find any luck. Grayson Goolgasian scored her ninth goal on an empty net goal from her own blueline to wrap up the scoring.
Reid has now scored a goal in five straight games, matching her own program record. She first accomplished it across two seasons (last game of 2022-23, first four games of 2023-24). Over the last five games she has scored eight goals, which is more than everyone on the Colonels, other than Goolgasian, has scored on the season.
As has been the case all season, the Colonels were dominant in the faceoff circle. winning 35 of 54. highlighted by Reid going 13 for 16. Goalie Sarah Kerr stopped all 33 shots she faced, earning her second shutout in three games. Over the past five games she has only allowed three goals, good for a 0.600 GAA.
The Colonels have guaranteed that they will host the first home playoff game in program history, as they have clinched a top three seed. They currently sit in second, one point ahead of UNE. Both teams play first place Endicott next weekend, while UNE has an extra conference game to play against Nichols.
Up Next - The Colonels will play next Friday at home against Keene State, and will celebrate senior day prior to the 7pm game.
