Canton, MA - The Curry Women's Hockey team took down Nichols on Saturday by a final score of 4-1. The two teams split the weekend series, with each team winning at home. The Colonels are now 2-1-0 on the season, and 1-1-0 in CNE play, while the Bison are now 3-1-0 and 1-1-0.
Just like the night before, the two teams only combined for nine first period shots on goal. But one of those was a one-timer from Grayson Goolgasian, her first of the year, and 29th of her career, tying teammate Danielle Reid for the most in a career. That goal was assisted by Hannah Berkowitz. That goal would give the Colonels the lead through one period.
The second period saw the Colonels double their lead early, when a loose puck in front of the net was knocked in by Ali Olorenshaw. But four minutes later the Bison scored a power play goal to cut the Curry lead in half. But the Colonels responded just minutes later with a power play goal of their own. Danielle Reid skated the puck in close, and Bella Mardesich was able to poke the puck into the net for her first career goal. Mardesich was not done, as she would add another goal in the third period off an assist from Goolgasian.
Making her first career start, Coriann Hoag stopped 13 of 14 shots. She became just the second goalie in program history to win her first start, joining Soleil Archambeault. Hoag becomes the first goalie in program history to win her first conference start.
Up Next - The Colonels will continue CNE play next Friday when they host UNE at 7pm.
