Women’s Ice Hockey Shuts Out Nichols

CANTON, Mass. - Four different Colonels scored on the way to Curry College's 4-0 victory over Nichols College Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's ice hockey action at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 3-6-2 while remaining 1-4-2 in conference play.

Curry scored twice in the opening period, starting with sophomore Ella Altiman (Chatham, Ontario), who scored her first goal of the season just three and a half minutes into the game. She was assisted by her classmate Megan Sawatzky (Lemont, Ill.) and junior Danielle Reid (Plainview, N.Y.).

The Colonels struck again with less than a minute remaining in the first when Reid scored on a power play, with assists being credited to juniors Hannah Berkowitz (Mattawan, Mich.) and Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.).

Freshman Julia Small (Methuen, Mass.) joined the ranks of goal scorers halfway through the second period, giving Curry a 3-0 lead after receiving the puck from sophomore Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Berkowitz during a power play opportunity.

The final goal of the contest was scored by Goolgasian with less than a minute remaining in the second period. Sawatzky was credited with an assist on the play.

Graduate goalkeeper Soleil Archambeault (London, Ontario) played the entire game in net for the Colonels, making 29 saves to maintain the shutout.

Today's contest marks the end of play in 2023 for Curry College. The Colonels return to action on Friday, January 5th, to host UMass Boston beginning at 7 p.m.
