Women's Ice Hockey Rallies Past JWU for Opening Night Win

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team prevailed 3-2 over Johnson & Wales University Friday night in its season opener at the New England Sports Village.

With the victory, the Colonels improve to 1-0-0 on the young season.

JWU scored twice in the opening period, including the contest's first goal just 12 seconds in, to put the hosts on top 2-0.

The Colonels responded however on the first goal of the evening from Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.). The junior walked out from behind the net and wrapped the puck in on the backhand to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

Early in the second, Goolgasian leveled the score with her second goal of the night, this time coming on a breakaway. Goolgasian picked the top corner from the hash marks for her second goal in as many periods.

Just under two and a half minutes into the third, sophomore Tommi Nash (Point Pleasant, N.J.) gave Curry its first lead of the night. The forward walked off the half wall and took a shot that eluded the Johnson & Wales netminder high on the blocker side.

Sophomore Sarah Kerr (Cochrane, Alberta) made 24 saves to earn her first victory of the season.

Next up for the Colonels, they will take on Worcester State on the road on Saturday afternoon. Puck drop is slated for 3:40 p.m.
