Colonels Fall to Lancers in Non-Conference Action

WORCESTER, Mass. - Curry College Women's Ice Hockey was defeated by non-conference opponent Worcester State University by a final score of 4-2 on the road Friday evening.

With the loss, Curry moves forward with an overall record of 8-12-2.

Curry College struck first in the non-conference matchup, Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.) netting a shot past Worcester State's Amber Lee assisted by Danielle Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) to take a quick 1-0 lead over the hosts. Goals from Worcester State's Katie Puumala and Clare Conway sent the matchup into the first intermission with the Lancers up 2-1. 

The second period saw two additional goals from the hosts, Brandi Lee and Emily Pavoni pushing the Lancers to a 4-1 lead with just over five minutes remaining.

The Colonels answered back in the final moments of the second period as Tommi Nash (Point Pleasant, N.J.) found the back of the net with just four seconds remaining to send the non-conference bout into the third period with the Lancers in front 4-2. Nash's goal was assisted by Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) and Hannah Berkowitz (Mattawan, Mich.). 

A scoreless third period from both sides closed out the non-conference bout in favor of the hosting Lancers, 4-2. 

Curry's sophomore netminder Anna Langton turned aside 14 of the 18 shots she faced in the non-conference loss on the road as freshman goalie Sarah Kerr marked 10 saves in the loss on the road.

The Colonels return to the ice Saturday afternoon as they host Western New England at the Canton Ice House at 3 PM.
