Women's Ice Hockey Quieted by Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Salve Regina University Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the St. George's School Ice Rink.

With the defeat, Curry drops to 7-11-2 overall on the season, and 4-9-2 in the CCC.

Salve scored twice in the second period to take a two-goal advantage. The hosts got goals from Maddie Cox and Riley Esposito to jump out to the advantage.

Just over a minute into the third, Curry got on the board on a power play goal by Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.). The sophomore redirected home an Ella Altiman (Chatham, Ontario) shot for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Also earning an assist on the play was freshman Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.).

The Colonels looked to tie the score with the goalie pulled, but Esposito desposited her second goal of the evening into the empty net to seal the win for Salve Regina.

Between the pipes, the loss went to senior netminder Soleil Archambeault (London, Ontario), despite stopping 25 shots.

Curry will return to the ice for its Hockey Fights Cancer game against the University of New England on Saturday afternoon. Puck drop from the Canton Ice House is scheduled for 3 p.m.
