Women's Ice Hockey Cruises Past Anna Maria

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team breezed past Anna Maria College 8-3 Tuesday evening in non-conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the victory, Curry improves to 7-8-2 overall on the season.

Both teams scored once in the first period to go to the first intermission knotted at 1-1. Anna Maria opened the scoring on a Julia Ballinger goal 5:42 into the contest, but freshman Katie Courteau (Warroad, Minn.) answered just over four minutes later with her second goal of the season, assisted by classmate Tommi Nash (Point Pleasant, N.J.).

The Curry offense exploded for five goals in the second period to take a commanding 6-3 into the third. Freshman Ella Altiman (Chatham, Ontario) opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal just 20 seconds into the frame, and classmate Margot Oxman (Lower Merion, Pa.) scored just 100 seconds later to put the Colonels on top 3-1.

Freshman Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.) got in on the fun at the 6:51 mark of the second with her first collegiate goal to put the hosts ahead 4-1. Just 27 seconds later, Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) notched her first goal of the evening, giving the Colonels a four-goal cushion.

Anna Maria made things interesting with a pair of goals just over three minutes midway through the second, but Oxman's second of the night just 54 seconds later put Curry back in command.

Third period insurance markers from Goolgasian and Nash sealed the deal for the Colonels, closing out the 8-3 lead.

Goolgasian (two goals and two assists) and Doyle each finished the evening with four points, while Oxman (two goals and one assist) and freshman Seneca Urban (Superior, Colo.; three assists) each recorded three points.

In net, freshman Sarah Kerr (Cochrane, Alberta) earned her first collegiate goal with a 21-save effort. Fourteen of her 21 saves came in the third period as she helped her team seal the victory.

The eight-goal offensive explosion is Curry women's ice hockey's most goals scored in a game in program history.

Next up for the Colonels, they will return to the ice for a matchup against Endicott College on Friday night in Beverly. Puck drop is slated 7 p.m.
